On this page is an investment grade corporate bond calculator which allows you to compute the total return of corporate bonds rated A, AA, or AAA. It is based on the Bank of America Merrill Lynch US Corporate Master Index, split out to only return corporate debt in the A to AAA range. It can estimate daily returns from 1996 until now, and also has an option to adjust for inflation in the form of the CPI index.
(Please allow for the files to load the first time you open the page daily; there are three large datasets which went into the making of this calculator.)

The CPI methodology, including interpolation and extrapolation, is available on our original any day inflation calculator.
Safe Corporate Debt Returns
Results are, of course, for educational and research purposes only – like any index data, individual bond results will vary from aggregate returns. Try to verify the numbers elsewhere. Returns quoted, even if accurate, don’t include transactional costs, taxes, and other sources of error like slippage and buy/sell timing – which would make a difference in real life investing results. We make no claims to the suitability of any investment – check with a financial advisor if you are wary of corporate debt or any other asset class!
All that said, we wanted to make it easy for you to compare the returns on corporate debt versus some of the other asset classes we’ve created calculators for in the past. We plan on introducing other corporate debt rating calculators at some point – but three indices on a page is already pushing the load time limit, so we’ll hold off for now.
