What is the range?

In statistics, the range is the span from the smallest to the largest value in a dataset. It's a simple measure of spread that tells you how dispersed your data is.

range = max - min

For example, in the set {-3, 4, 7, 500}, the range is 500 - (-3) = 503.

Using the range calculator

Enter your numbers in the text box — separated by commas, spaces, or new lines. The calculator accepts decimals (0.5), fractions (1/2), and negatives (-3).

The range updates instantly as you type, along with mean, median, mode, min, max, sum, and count.
