Unlike other blogs (which disappear completely!), we here at DQYDJ tend to slack on our Weekenders around the holidays. This year was no different - as both Cameron and I had family around - which trumps linking out! (And Bryan is engaged - give him your congrats!). Oh, and I got sick and basiclly lost my voice for two days... yeah, a silly excuse for not typing, but hey...
Anyway, here's another Weekender, so you can read all the links that were worth it the last few weeks. High five for continuing to read our high quality pieces - and the boring filler.
Our schedule this week? Only one real article - so feel free to come back the week after so we can hit our customary 'how much did the S&P 500 return in 2014?' article. I know you're interested...
Links We Liked!
- At Afford Anything, a suggestion that, at a certain point, it's easier to earn more instead of cutting your budget further. (Also of note - a picture of a woman with no idea how to measure her left bicep.)
- Political Calculations noticed that California, with 12.6% of all teenagers in the country, didn't have a teenage job recovery with the rest of the nation over the last few months in the face of falling oil prices. Long time readers won't be surprised at the cause!
- Len Penzo found a way to interview Ebenezer Scrooge about giving to charity! And, yes, this is pre-Tiny Tim Scrooge; you'll like it.
- At Boomer & Echo, a slightly incredulous look at how to define 'affordability'. Debt is debt, right?
- Jason Hull of Hull Financial Planning had a nice piece on the sandwich generation - are you prepared to help your kids emotionally, physically, mentally, and... financially while helping your parents with the same things?
- Nelson at Financial Uproar hosted a mailbag - and we're pretty sure that at least one of the questions isn't made up!
- Timestamp this article! SS at Save. Spend. Splurge notes that she doesn't mind the profession her children choose - but she will cut them off at some point regardless of their choice of career.
- Pauline at Reach Financial Independence has a huge info dump and life update, and gives an update on the construction of her new house - which she is acting as the GC for. It's all in there, go read!
- Moneystepper asks how we play with our money. Well, we personally try to turn it into more money with various degrees of success... but we do have plenty of hobbies.
- J. Money at Budgets are Sexy had a nice anecdote about his wife buying the 'simpler' model of coffee maker after the $60 one broke. Our last 2 were basic models, but we were gifted one - even though it has the single cup maker (which comes in handy when we've had decaf-drinking folks over), we generally go for the traditional 12 pot side.
- At a Wealth of Common Sense, a question: Is there a melt-up in long term bonds? Of course, here's our monthly coupons reinvested 10 year Treasury Calculator... so you can check things out.
- A truly epic insurance decision article showed up at Planting Our Pennies. Zip codes and water and pools and Florida and hurricanes!
