Below is a NAICS code lookup tool for United States publicly traded securities. This tool helps investors identify companies within specific North American Industry Classification System codes to find related companies, see industry structure, and better understand business sectors.
This tool is part of our industry classification suite. Please let me know about any issues on our Contact Form.
NAICS Code Lookup Tool
Note: The database contains publicly traded securities that file with the SEC. Classifications are taken from SIC codes on SEC EDGAR, then converted to a NAICS code or codes via crosswalk.
How to use the NAICS Industry Lookup tool
This lookup tool allows you to browse companies by their NAICS classifications:
- NAICS Code: Search a NAICS code in the search box (or search by description). Hit Look Up to see all companies in the DQYDJ database with that code.
- Browse by NAICS code: Alternatively, browse and select a NAICS code from the dropdown.
- Company Details: View ticker symbols, company names, latest prices (updated roughly daily), and related SIC codes.

For each company, you can click through to see detailed industry information (or see the link to visit SEC filings directly.)
Limitations and considerations
While NAICS offers significant advantages over the SIC system, we're still stuck with limitations.
- NAICS codes shown are derived from SIC codes those companies file with the SEC. I convert them using the NAICS Association Crosswalk. This means a number of companies have many NAICS codes.
- Due to this methodology, complex companies may operate across multiple industries but may not have all NAICS codes assigned.
- Data is refreshed periodically, so recent corporate restructuring may not be immediately reflected
For comprehensive industry analysis, consider using both our SIC Code Lookup Tool and this tool together.
NAICS code structure
NAICS codes use a hierarchical six-digit structure that provides greater detail than the older SIC system:
- First two digits: Economic sector (e.g., 52 = Finance and Insurance)
- Third digit: Economic subsector
- Fourth digit: Industry group
- Fifth digit: Industry
- Sixth digit: National industry (country-specific detail)
Sources
The key for these company classifications is their self-filed SIC, which I crosswalk to NAICS code(s). Here is how it's populated:
- SEC EDGAR: Primary source for company SIC codes and basic information.
- NAICS Association: NAICS-SIC code crosswalks and NAICS descriptions come from the NAICS Association.
