Historical Dividend Yield Calculator: Yield History for Stocks, ETFs, and Funds

Written by:

On this page is a Historical Dividend Yield Calculator for stocks, ETFs, and mutual funds. Enter your choice of ticker and see the security's dividend yield history: average and median yield over multiple windows, high and low yields with dates, and a comparison of today's yield with your ticker's own history.

Historical dividend yield calculator

Using the calculator

Enter your ticker, then hit Analyze Yield. As you type, the tool searches supported stocks, ETFs, CEFs, ADRs, and mutual funds (or, choose to search by company or fund name).

Once the tool runs, use the 1y, 3y, 5y, 10y, and Max buttons to change the analysis window. For each available window, you'll see:

  • Current yield – the recurring trailing-12-month split-adjusted payout divided by the ticker's latest price
  • Window average and Median – the ticker's average and median dividend yield over your selected period
  • High and Low – the extreme high and low yields in the window, with their dates
  • Current percentile – a percentile comparison showing where today's yield sits in the window's history. It compares the current yield with the ticker's historic yield (not other securities or the market)
  • Target yield (%) (optional) – the tool computes the Implied price for a target yield, or the share price that would produce that yield using the current estimated recurring trailing-12-month payout.

The chart on the main screen spans the full yield history for your window, while the Yield Table tab lists the charted observations by date. You'll also see the resolved security name, and the data-through date.

As a DQYDJ tool, I made sure you can get the data behind your scenario into your choice of spreadsheet program. Below the chart, the Export link downloads the yield history series and the window statistics as a CSV.

It's also straightforward to share scenarios – the page URL should automatically update as you run tickers, so you can bookmark or share the URL to zoom to a result. For example: this link opens Apple automatically.

Methodology and limitations

On an observation date, the yield is the security's recurring trailing-12-month dividend or distribution per current share divided by its split-adjusted market price on that day. As a formula, here's how it looks:

Yield_{date} = \frac{Recurring\ TTM\ Payout_{date}}{Split\text{-}Adjusted\ Price_{date}}

Recurring payouts (not special dividends or one-time distributions) drive the chart and headline yield. The tool will disclose any special/one-time payouts identified during the trailing 12 months. That classification uses the same split-aware foundation as our Dividend Growth and Dividend Income calculators, built on Tiingo end-of-day prices, dividends, and split factors.

Anything here is provided for informational or research purposes only, and no outputs or prose are investment advice. I encourage you to verify data elsewhere, and consult with a professional with any questions about your finances.

Here are some important limitations of this tool:

  • The first year of a security's price history isn't shown as a full trailing-12-month yield since, well... there isn't a complete year of payouts to trail yet!
  • Available history depends on the ticker's coverage in our database, sourced from Tiingo.
  • Summary statistics use every eligible trading day. However, for speed: the chart, Yield Table, and exported series use weekly observations when the security has no more than five years of usable yield history, and monthly observations for longer histories. Very long series may be thinned further based upon the number of data points (export to CSV to confirm resolution).
