What is a mixed number?
A mixed number combines a whole number and a proper fraction, like 3½ or 2¾. An improper fraction has a numerator larger than (or equal to) its denominator, like 7/2 or 11/4.
Converting between forms
Mixed to improper: Multiply the whole number by the denominator, add the numerator, and keep the same denominator.
Improper to mixed: Divide the numerator by the denominator. The quotient is the whole number, the remainder is the new numerator.
