Percent Increase Calculator: How Much Did it Grow?

Written by:

On this page is a percent increase calculator. Enter a starting amount and an ending amount and the tool will tell you how much larger the second number is, expressed as a percentage.

What is the Percent Increase Formula?

The percentage increase formula is:

(\frac{(final-initial)}{initial})*100

Take the final amount, then subtract the initial – you'll be left with a positive number. Then, divide the initial number. Multiply that result by 100 and you are left with the amount larger the final amount is compared to the initial.

Percent Increase Formula Example

Now, let's work through an example. If your initial number was 100 and your final number was 150, that's a 50% increase. Here's how it works in the formula:

(\frac{150-100}{100})*100 \\ \frac{50}{100}*100\\.5*100=50\%
