The DQYDJ Weekender, 4/13/2025

Hi again, folks! I know I should send an update more often than once every six months. But, despite the delay, it's great to talk to you again.

I've been maintaining things behind the scenes, but I'm happy to say there have been some new posts and tools since the last Weekender! I'll share a selection here.

First, a few public company lookup tools, using the SEC EDGAR database and some crosswalks to NAICS codes:

And other posts you may have missed:

I'm getting questions (understandably, given volatility) about how often I update the S&P 500, Dow Jones, and NASDAQ return calculators. For an immediate answer, I updated them today. But in general, as I think of it and (hopefully) after big moves.

You can use the ETF Return Calculator as a proxy if you see return tools falling behind.

What's planned with DQYDJ in 2025?

Thank you so much for being a reader. This Spring marks the 16th(!) anniversary of DQYDJ. Building and maintaining DQYDJ has meant so much to me—and, as it turns out, my life and career—and I thank you for coming on this journey with me.

In 2025, I'd like to set more aggressive goals for DQYDJ tools and posts. AI has changed the web's traffic mix and made it easier for a small team or even a single person to pursue projects that used to require a massive team or even a large company. The AI era makes me want to attempt some wild projects.

The most popular request type now is extending existing tools to different securities or classes of data. Crypto might not be your favorite topic, but I received many requests to make a stock correlation tool comparable to that new crypto tool (which, admittedly, limited the number of cryptocurrencies available).

Yes, I will do that. And for that tool I'll include the whole universe of securities in my other tools. That's why I'm going down the rabbit hole of NAICS and SIC codes.... we need to populate suggestions, right? But, in general, I want to expand the investing tools.

Here's where you can help: let me know what you think is missing from the Investing category (or, really, anywhere on the site). You can reply if you're on the newsletter or send a suggestion through the contact form.

Anything else?

I've discussed it a few times, but I'm still considering a standalone investment watchlist app with alerting, organization, reporting, and prioritization based on valuation, sentiment, news, or other criteria. Do you think that genre is underserved? Could it use a new approach?

If I made something, I'd ask if you wanted to test it before releasing anything or asking people to subscribe.

PK, is your house done yet? (Heck, even your deck?)

New Hampshire winters are long! (That's an excuse.)

I have the deck rails replaced, and I have deck lighting roughed in but not yet connected to the low-voltage transformer. I will install drink rails this Spring. After that, I'll send you an updated picture.

There's snow(!) on the deck right now in mid-April, so give me a break, haha. At least this week looks warm.

The house is getting there. We hired out the girls' bathroom and it looks great. We'll have the roof done soon. Then there's one-half of the first floor to refresh and paint... then I won't know what to do with my time. I'll let you all convince me to use it here on DQYDJ!

Hope you're doing well – how are things near you?
