On this page is a cotangent calculator, for either angles or degrees. Input an angle's measurement, choose your units, and run the calculator to see the cotangent.
Cotangent Calculator for Angles or Radians
Using the Cotangent Calculator
To use the tool to find the cotangent, enter the measurement of the angle in either degrees or radians, choose the units, and compute.
- Angle - measurement of the angle, in degrees or radians)
- Degrees or Radians? - choose your units in the menu
Once happy, click the "Compute Cotangent" button.
- Cotangent - the cotangent, or ratio of the adjacent side over the opposite side's measurement
What is the cotangent?
For a given angle in a right triangle, cotangent is the ratio of the adjacent side to the opposite side. Cotangent is the reciprocal of the tangent; tangent is the ratio of the opposite side's length to the adjacent side.
Trigonometric functions like the cotangent can also be used to find the ratio between sides of a unit circle (a circle with radius 1).
Cotangent as a formula
As a trigonometry formula, cotangent is usually abbreviated as "cot", as in the following equation:
As the reciprocal of tangent, it's equivalent to:
If you know the cotangent, use the inverse cotangent or arccotangent to find the angle.
