## What is the Fourth Root of a Number?

In mathematics, the fourth root of a number is the number when multiplied by itself then multiplied by itself again and then multiplied by itself a final time equals the *radicand*, or base of the radical.

\sqrt[4]{x} =fourth\ root\ (or)\\(fourth\ root)*(fourth\ root)*(fourth\ root)*(fourth\ root)=x

In the above equations:

- 4 = the index, denoting 4th root or fourth root
- √ = the
*radical*sign (radix) - x = the
*radicand*, or the final value we’d get multiplying the fourth root by itself, then by itself again, then by itself again

## Using the Fourth Root Calculator

To use the fourth root calculator, merely the radicand (number under the symbol to find the fourth root). Then hit the **Compute Fourth Root** button and we’ll compute the cubic root for you in the **Fourth Root** box.
