What is the Square Root of a Number?

In mathematics, the square root of a number is the number when multiplied by itself equals the radicand, or base of the radical.

\sqrt{x} =square\ root\ (or)\\(square\ root)*(square\ root)=x

In the above equations:

  • √ = the radical sign (radix)
  • x = the radicand, or the final value we'd get multiplying the square root by itself

Using the Square Root Calculator

To use the square root calculator, merely the radicand (number under the symbol, the number you want to find the square root of). Then hit the Compute Square Root button and we'll compute the square root for you in the Square Root box.
