The following is a medium grade corporate bond return calculator which allows you to compute the total return of corporate bonds rated BBB, BB, or B, including allowances for inflation measured by the Consumer Price Index. It is based on the Bank of America Merrill Lynch US Corporate Master Index, split to only return corporate debt in the B to BBB range. We also include CPI as our inflation measure. and allow single day returns from 1996 to present.
(Please allow for the files to load the first time you open the page each day; all three datasets load independently and will need to be downloaded behind the scenes.)
Sources and Methodology on the Medium Grade Corporate Bond Return Calculator
CPI methodology, including interpolation and extrapolation, is available on our original any day inflation calculator. That data goes back to 1913 and recent months will all be extrapolations of inflation data (and will update automatically once a month as more information is available).
As always, this data is for research purposes only – please verify any returns numbers with external sources. Also, it’s an aggregate index, so it isn’t guaranteed to track the returns of any individual issues. Furthermore, you should make allowances for taxes, transaction fees, management fees and other costs which may go along with investing in corporate debt.
As always, with those limitations in mind we hope you enjoy the medium grade corporate bond return calculator! Give this one and all of our other calculators a bookmark; we appreciate the visits and the links!
