Convert a Fraction to a Decimal
Fractions are numbers which you express as part of a whole. So are percentages – written as a percentage of 100%.
Decimals are another way to conceptualize percentages – and in many ways, the canonical way. When you multiply by a percentage, you're actually multiplying as a decimal in relation to 1. That is:
100% = 1, 99% = .99, etc.
To convert from a fraction to a decimal, you can avoid the normalizing step of multiplying by 100 to make a percentage. Divide the numerator (top of the fraction) by the denominator (bottom of the fraction) and you're left with the decimal representation.
Decimals vs. Percentages
To "convert" between percentages and fractions, you only have to divide or multiple by 100. Here's an example of going from percentages to decimals:
