Using the Days Between Dates Calculator
To compute the distance in days between two dates, simply fill out the two input fields:
- First date: Enter the date you want to start the calculation

- Time Between: The difference between two days using both years and days to count.
- Days Between: The difference between two days using only days (not adjusting for years).

How does day counting work?
The calculator counts the whole beginning date, but not the ending date when doing the day counting math. So, if you enter a day and the very next day the tool will return '1' day:
Does the calculator include leap years?
Yes, the calculator will take leap years into effect. Depending on if you use the years & days or just the days result, you will see the result of leap years.
For example, try the following dates to become comfortable with how the tool works:
- 02/28/2016 - 03/01/2016: 2 days
- 02/28/2017 - 03/01/2017: 1 days
What if the second date is before the first date?
Internal to the tool we'll just assume the second date is the start date. Go ahead and choose whichever order you'd prefer!
What's a useful way to use the days between calculator?
We like to use it for calculating the number of days overlap between things. For example, take Marilyn Monroe and Madonna (who has channeled Monroe in music videos):
- Marilyn Monroe was born June 1, 1926, and died August 4, 1962
- Madonna was born August 16, 1958
Using the tool, you can see Madonna and Marilyn Monroe's lives overlapped for 1,449 days (3 years and 353 days).
