On this page is a tangent calculator, for either angles or degrees. Enter the angle's measurement, choose your units, and run the calculator to see the tangent.
Tangent Calculator for Angles or Radians
Using the Tangent Calculator
To use the tool to find the tangent, enter the measurement of the angle in either degrees or radians, choose the units, and compute.
- Angle - measurement of your angle (in degrees or radians)
- Degrees or Radians? - choose the units in the menu
Once you're happy with the inputs, click the "Compute Tangent" button.
- Tangent - the tangent, or ratio of the opposite side over the adjacent side's measurement
What is the tangent?
For a given angle in a right triangle, tangent is the ratio of the opposite side to the adjacent side.
Trigonometric functions can also be used to find the ratio between sides of a unit circle (a circle with radius 1).
Tangent as a formula
As a trigonometry formula, tangent is usually abbreviated as "tan", as in the following equation:
\tan(\theta)
If you already know the tangent, use the inverse tangent or the arctangent to find the angle.
After, find all the trigonometric functions and inverse trigonometric functions in one tool.
